Organic Meat - the Truth

I had a conversation about organic meat today - that quite honestly has left me flabbergasted!

A family friend found out that I was doing some work for Welsh Farm Organics on their website that has the online Organic Meat shop.

Their instant response was:

Organic meat is a rip off and is just designed to make a load of money for the farmer - I know it is true because the local butcher told me, and why would he lie?

Why indeed? Supermarket Butcher

I asked this family friend, how much of what the butcher sold was organic meat?

Nothing

Does this butcher sell meat from non-organic sources?

Yes

Do you think that the two things may be connected?

Ah…well…perhaps…I guess….I see what you are saying.

Basically, they had formed an opinion based on a conversation with someone who has a vested interest in their customers NOT BUYING ORGANIC MEAT:

Not caring about the animal welfare
Not caring about the state of the land that the animals live on
Not caring that organic meat generates more local employment than mass produced stuff.

Tonight, I am cooking some lamb that this friend is bringing round from his butcher and some lamb that I brought home from Welsh Farm Organics (organic meat naturally!).

We’ll see if it is all a con - betcha I convert them to organic meat purely on the flavour!
