Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall - Chickens again

Hugh Fernley-WhittingstallDoes anyone care how chickens are raised?

Does anyone want to know what the nutritional content of a factory reared chicken against a organically raised chicken is?

Should we be bothered what makes an intensively raised chicken so cheap in comparison to the more costly organic bird?

Well.

Yes.

I am just an average guy, with a child and partner, not rich (yet!) and value for money is important to me.  I cannot afford to just go out and spend a load of money on something that Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall says that I should buy.

However, I buy organic chicken.  In fact, I am lucky enough to be involved with Welsh Farm Organics, so I get to buy all my meat organic.  Like the rest of the staff though - we pay full retail.

I don’t buy organic meat because it is trendy/eco-friendly/better for the animals (although I am chuffed all that is true), I buy organic meat because it is much tastier, it is better for me and my family, and I can get it relatively easily.

Hugh is a great guy, but lots of people think that he is a middle-class fop who started off telling people what they should be doing and then decided to profit from his celebrity by campaigning about the things he wants to sell.  Are they right? Who knows.  Is the message that he gives about organic poultry right? Absolutely.

If you like chicken then you’ll love organic chicken.
You can be sure that your family is getting the best bird nutritionally.
More importantly - you can be sure that your family will be getting the best bird for TASTE.
