Enterprises/Activities: We operate a processing service for local organic farmers. We can also pack, weigh and label their products enabling them to sell on, despite the small size of their operation. In addition we sell our produce at farmers’ markets, to restaurants, to a couple of box schemes, to a specialist food supplier who market non-additive, non-coloured, non-nitrate products for the increasing number of people who need a specialised diet.
Dugwm ValleyHistory: The business was formed by a young Montgomeryshire farming couple Jonathan and Sally Rees who wanted to sell quality Welsh organic meat at an affordable price, but without the middle man.
In 2001 the couple’s family farm achieved organic status for their cattle and sheep, and seeing a gap in the market for reasonably priced organic meat they decided to set up their own meat processing business at Tyn y Fron Farm at Mochdre near Newtown.
Jonathan trained with a local butcher, and an on-farm processing unit was built comprising a number of separate chill rooms, cutting and preparation areas, freezers, offices and storage facilities. They now offer a professional, high grade, butchering and processing service to local farmers.
